This study focuses on the development of indicators that can be used for assessing the sustainable development of Russian regions. There is a large number of studies devoted to this problem. We underline the context of the indicators presented in this study, since the goal is to understand how the objectives set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are integrated into regional strategies and policies.

The methodological basis of the study is economic and statistical analysis used in order to calculate the indicators and compose the sustainable development rating of Russian regions. We identified the leading and lagging regions, determined the gap in the level of regional development and the main trends in the regional socio-environmental-economic processes.

The result of the study is the proposed model of sustainable development rating of Russian regions. Specific parameters used for the measurement allow us to understand the depth of the problems of regional development, as well as find the tools to develop plans to overcome them.
