The article examines the role of public procurement as a tool for achieving economic goals in
the field of national security of the country. The methodological basis of the research is based on
general scientific and dialectical approaches to cognition, as well as on special methods such as
formal logical and comparative legal. In the course of the work, methods of data collection, studying
the information received, as well as analyzing regulatory documents were applied. To achieve this
goal, the authors analyzed the fundamental documents of strategic planning in the field of national
and economic security. To characterize the role of public procurement in modern political and
economic conditions, the aspect of budget financing of state programs and national projects was
touched upon, and the regional section was demonstrated by the example of the Targeted Investment
Program of St. Petersburg. Thus, public procurement in its modern form is not just a mechanism for
providing government agencies with goods and services necessary for carrying out daily activities,
but a tool for achieving national economic goals, a tool for implementing federal and regional
measures, and a tool for achieving scientific and technological development goals.
