The new geo-economics has significantly shifted supply chains, including those based on rail transport. Long transportation times have become a serious problem for cargo owners and rolling stock operators, reducing the efficiency of their operational and financial cycles. The suspension of cargo across all supply chains is a significant threat to the economic security of the national economy.
The purpose of this study is to create methodological tools for assessing the threshold values for the economic security of rail freight transportation, which form the basis of supply chains.
Data from industry information systems were used. Time series methods were applied, based on the dynamics of three elements: time, the value of the speed indicator and the volume of transportation, and the method of analyzing the correspondence on the routes: revenue, the property of the transported cargo and the characteristics of the shipment.
The result of the study is a developed toolkit for assessing threshold values of economic security of freight rail transportation, taking into account the limitations of the throughput and carrying capacity of the railway infrastructure. The range of variation of the threshold value of train throughput is determined.
The conclusion is substantiated about the applicability of the indicator of the optimal number of loaded wagons for each purpose in the supply chain depending on the distance of their run, speed and infrastructure throughput.
