The purpose of the study is to form a systematic understanding of the potential impulses for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the Russian Federation and the near abroad countries. The task of the study is to identify the main trends affecting the financial policy of this group of countries. Methodology - consists in the application of methods of general economic analysis taking into account the specifics of national regulation activity. We studied the data of national statistics of the countries, supplemented by analytical macroeconomic reviews and analysis of national strategic planning documents regulating the considered sphere of relations. Results. The systematised description of the processes observed in the economy of the near abroad countries is presented; the foreign economic position of the countries is estimated; the information on the main priority directions of strategic character chosen in the countries under study is systematised. Conclusions. The obtained results of the research allow us to form an unambiguous conclusion that the near abroad countries are experiencing a difficult stage of their development, associated with the slowdown of economic growth, reduction of opportunities to benefit from the existing foreign trade specialisation. The countries are aware of the limitations of their development and are actively shaping strategic priorities, which, in their opinion, can create an impetus for reaching a new, sustainable level of economic growth. Taking these facts into account is extremely important for the purposes of clarifying the current Russian policy of financial co-operation with these countries.
