The article discusses the indicators of the economic condition of the regions of Russia in order to identify threats that affect the economic security of the country. The Strategy for Economic Security of the Russian Federation has developed numerous indicators designed to reflect the country's development both at the federal and regional levels. The authors conducted a study of the main indicators of development of the regions of the Russian Federation in the period from 2013 to 2019 allow us to conclude that not enough attention is paid to work with young people, issues of increasing labor productivity and innovative technologies are not actively introduced. In order to determine the balance and spatial development of the country, the article compares the districts of the Russian Federation in terms of investment activity, unemployment, labor market tension and other indicators. It has been established that the most favorable conditions for all indicators are noted in the Central District, and lagging districts have been identified. The article concludes that the regions of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation lag behind the national average and the need to reduce the level of interregional differentiation in the socio-economic development of Russian regions. This will ensure the sustainability of socio-economic development and increase the economic security of the country.
