The purpose is to study the emergence and development of the category of «economic interests» and, on this basis, analyze the contradictions inherent in the interests of various business entities within the framework of their interaction, as well as the transformation of interests under the influence of various factors.

The research methods used in writing the article correspond to the stated purpose and include analysis and synthesis, comparison, concretization, abstraction and generalization of practical experience.

The results of the study are presented in the evolution of definitions, and the structure of economic interests of business entities is considered from the point of view of hierarchy and a systematic approach. The role of state institutions in the creation and strengthening of human and social capital, as a necessary condition for reconciling contradictions and increasing the welfare of society, is revealed.

Conclusions The authors have proved that effectively functioning state institutions make it possible to smooth out contradictions in the interests of various business entities by reaching various compromise solutions, which, in turn, is a tool for the development of the national economy. Studying the theoretical foundations of the emergence of contradictions between the interests of individuals and groups will help to find a compromise point for their settlement in accordance with the goals of the state.
