The article deals with the problems of ensuring economic security and sustainability of the socio-economic system at the country level in the context of global instability in 2020-2022. The main attention is paid to the impact on the Russian economy of the pandemic shock of 2020 and the "wave" of anti-Russian sanctions of 2022. It is indicated that the decline in stability and weakening of economic security arose not only due to shock changes in the macro environment, but also due to the institutional inertia of the socio-economic system. This requires the development of new, preventive mechanisms for achieving stable economic growth and countering internal and external shocks. Special attention is paid to new threats to Russia's economic security caused by the conduct of a special military operation, the growth of global political and economic polarization and the entry into Russia following the results of referendums of new regions that historically were previously part of it. It is noted that the modern period of development has not only a negative, but also some positive impact on the stability of the Russian economy. The article proposes measures to strengthen the stability of the Russian economy and strengthen national economic security.
