The article raises critical issues and problems of formation of system of statistical indicators that could assess the country's work in the field of ensuring economic security of scientific-technical and innovation activities. This system of indicators needs to be modern, considering the latest achievements in the field of economic security and related industries. A comparison of instructional techniques unified the Russian and foreign statistics, which revealed many common features and approaches. Focuses on the condition monitoring system, which should be based on such key concepts as the definition of research activities and types or types of activities. No less important were identified in the course of writing the article is the problem of a legal nature and normative. The indicated problem can be solved only if it is formed such a system of indicators that would take into account all aspects in the field of scientific and technical and innovative activities, because "...only counting the uncounted, we can reach the unreached...". It is concluded that the range of available forms of statistical reporting is more suitable for industrial enterprises, in the future, these forms should be adapted to the peculiarities of Russia's development at the present stage.
