The role of institutional investors in financing sustainable development: foreign experience

Both international community and national governments are currently looking for resources to finance sustainable development projects contributing to green growth. Institutional investors are seen as a potential source of financing such projects because of the size of the assets under their management.

The aim of the study is to propose possible measures to stimulate the involvement of institutional investors in financing sustainable economy initiatives in the Russian Federation based on the most successful international experience.

The study uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis aimed at determining the most successful foreign experience in the formation of mechanisms for the involvement of institutional investors in financing sustainable development. Synthesis, historical, statistical, systemic and structural methods as well as a causal method are also applied.

The study outcomes are proposed measures to stimulate institutional investors in the Russian Federation based on the most successful international experience.
