The objective of the study is to substantiate the need for and possibility of direct participation
of large agricultural enterprises (agroholdings and groups of companies) in the development of smallscale
agricultural production in the territories of presence. The data of the Federal State Statistics
Service, public reporting data of agroholdings and groups of companies were used as research
materials. Research methods: comparison and generalization, graphical and structural-logical
analysis. Research results: the problems of the territories generated by the activities of large
agricultural enterprises were generalized and supplemented, the insufficiency of methodological
support for the systemic assessment of their impact on the sustainable development of municipalities
in the territories of presence was revealed. It is shown that the ownership of the rental resource -
agricultural land - generates land rent of the owners of large agricultural enterprises. Rent, being a
form of economic implementation of land ownership rights, generates a set of relations between the
owner and the state, which should not be realized at the expense of reducing the quality of life of the
population in the territory of presence. The characteristic of commitment to the principles of ESG
policy of the top 5 agroholdings in the RAEX ESG ranking is given. A sharp gap has been revealed
between the average monthly remuneration of key management personnel of large agricultural
enterprises and the average wage in the territories of presence. Conclusions: the data available in the
public domain give grounds to assume the existence of financial reserves, the source of which is the
rent received by the owners of agricultural land, as part of the surplus value created through their
productive use. The extraordinary disproportions of its distribution in favor of top management and
owners can and should be mitigated in such a way as, on the one hand, to ensure effective management
of large-scale agricultural production, and on the other hand, to stimulate agroholdings and groups of
companies to more intensive involvement in solving social and environmental problems in the
territories of presence.
