JATS‑XML (OAI)The objective of this study is to develop a classification and identify socioeconomic criteria that can be used to systematize methodological approaches to improving the efficiency of using the infrastructural potential of the sports and physical education services market in the Russian Federation, taking into account the challenging socioeconomic situation and the emergence of new economic threats leading to an imbalance in supply and demand in the Russian sports industry. To this end, two main research objectives were addressed: first, a definition of the category «infrastructure potential of the sports and physical education services market» was proposed; second, criteria for classifying the infrastructural potential of the sports and physical education services market were developed, taking into account key factors such as the magnitude of supply and demand in the market, the level of digitalization and the use of AI, the specific features of individual sports and sports activities, and a number of others. The article demonstrates that infrastructure potential allows one to consider the infrastructure itself and its individual facilities in the context of potential changes that can be initiated by the governing body that oversees or supervises the relevant infrastructure. These changes must necessarily lead to the emergence of both social and economic effects not only for the governing entity, but also for the territory or region where the infrastructure facilities are located.
